My Thoughts on the Flames

I have been a Calgary Flames fan for as long as I can remember.  I have cheered for them through the good times and the bad.  I remember starting to go to the games not long after they moved into the Saddledome, because my grandparents had gotten season tickets.  I grew up idolizing the Flames players because they got to play for such a great organization.  I was at the Stanley Cup deciding game in 86, watching the Montreal Canadiens skate around the ice with the Stanley Cup.  That was one of the hardest things I have ever witnessed, just knowing that Our Team had gotten so close and tried so hard.  But they came back the next year, heads held high and started all over again.  A couple of seasons later and Oh My Lord, the Flames are now doing the same thing that the Canadiens had done to them and were skating around on their ice holding Lord Stanley above their heads as high as they possibly could.  Man what a feeling!!!!

After that they had some up and down seasons, but their I was still cheering away because this is my team!!!!  There were times that some of the decisions that were made were tough to understand, but as a devoted fan I stuck by my team.  I watched as the team went through a streak of non-playoff years but you have to stand by your team.  All of a sudden the Sutter Era began.

Darryl Sutter joined the organization and all of a sudden we became a contender again and he became the savior to a lot of devoted fans like myself.  Everything the man touched seemed to turn to gold on the ice.  We have the run to the Cup again and what a feeling of pride and joy, watching the team go out and leave everything they had on the ice.  I don't even want to discuss the goal that supposedly never happened by Martin Gelinas, but I digress.  Again the fans and the City in general have something to cheer for.  Again the team and the fans had to watch another team enjoy the spoils of Lord Stanley.  But again the team came out the next season with some minor changes but still with their heads held high and started again.  We as fans watched as Sutter started to make little changes here and there and they seemed to still be working.  Flames Fans including myself couldn't help but think about how it had worked out some years earlier with the little bits of tinkering after being to the finals.  Somewhere on that track of all we need is some minor tinkering and we will be back in the finals, Darryl lost his mind.

Now here we are. We are not even the same team that we were only a couple of seasons ago.  If you look in the different areas within the organization I am sure you will find the last name Sutter connected to a job of some sort.  I have no problem with helping family out, but good lord.  Our Savior from a few years back, now all of a sudden thinks and speaks about how the important people agreed with his choices.  Am I missing something here or are the Fans, the people who fill the Saddledome to the brink for every home game and spend their hard earned money to be there and cheer on their team NOT IMPORTANT!!!!!  Give me a freaking break.  Just because we don't sign your cheques does not make us the fans any less important than the people that do.  Where do you think the money comes from to fill your damn pockets anyway.  We are allowed to ask questions, and expect answers and for the Organization in a whole to be held accountable for the decisions that are made in the office or on the ice.  It does not seem like it was that long ago that we heard the pleas and the cries from the Organization that if they didn't get the support from the fans that was needed, that financially it may not be feasible to keep the team here.  Well we listened and you have all the support that you can get and more, but yet we aren't classified as important in the eyes of your General Manger.  Give Your Head A Shake, and Wake Up.

Again I have been a fan for a long time, but it gets really old really fast, trying to support some of the decisions made by the Organization in general.

Sincerely a Devoted Fan of the Flames,
Brad Bernauer

The Flames and Their Free Agent Splash

I really wish that I could have gone through the beginning of Free Agency, with a NO COMMENT!!!!  But people expect me to say something after what has transpired.

So I will start off with a Positive Note, by saying congratulations for picking up Tanguay for one year at 1.7 Million.  I think that was a smart move by the organization.

Now I will speak on behalf of the Fans of the Flames.  Please do not make us look stupid, figuring that we know nothing about hockey.  Jokinen again, Really!!!!!

Now a note to the Media in Calgary.  I think that this the first time that I have seen them go against the Flames and their decisions.  I believe that this is a good thing as it will keep the Organization on their toes.

I sent the ownership group a letter at the end of the season, asking them to meet me so that I could give them my view on what went Wrong!  I still have not heard anything back from them on this.  NHLFIX CONSULTING, is what I am offering.  I believe that my view is the same as a lot of the fans that fill the Saddledome up every game.  And I know that if we could just speak it would make sense to the Organization to listen to what we have to say.  That is all that I am asking!!!!  My Consulting is FREE OF CHARGE!!!

Travel Cheap With Pete, Playoff Tickets Anywhere:

I will find cheap hockey tickets in any city.  This past weekend I went to Vancouver with my daughter Crystal so that she could take an amazing course called http://www.landmarkforum.com  (I would recommend this course be taken by the Sutters as well).

While my daughter was in the course on Saturday night I decided to go to the Canucks/Kings game.  The ticket cost me more than I normally pay as this one was $100.00.  The person I bought the ticket from had payed $160.00.  Here is a little breakdown of a weekend away to Vancouver from Calgary:
1.Total Cost of Flight - $284.81
2.Hotel - $89.00 per night (http://www.empirelandmarkhotel.com)
3.New Train To Downtown - $7.50
4.Playoff Hockey Ticket $100.00

So in total not a bad deal to get out of the city for a couple of days to the beautiful city of Vancouver, and take in a Hockey game as well.  My secret to finding cheap tickets is to stand about 15 feet away from the scalpers and watch for people that have an extra ticket.  Being close enough to hear what the scalper has offered them but not close enough to piss the scalper off, I can move in and offer a bit more usually with great results.  It does help to only be asking for a single ticket as they are way harder to get rid of.

The people that I bought the ticket from got it from http://www.rosedaleonrobson.com/  They paid $250.00 per person for 1 night stay and the hockey ticket.  The catch to this is it is based on double occupancy.  When I got to my seat there was a white towel sitting there waiting.  As hard as they tried it could not match the Sea of Red as far as I am concerned.

Last season I went on a holiday with my sister Carol and my other daughter Tiffany to Phoenix.  While we were there the Flames and Oilers were coming through town.  I think we payed around $20.00 each person for each game.  While we were at the game proudly wearing our Flames Jerseys, one of the Ushers approached us and told us we could move down to the lower bowl at no extra charge.  There were alot of Flames and Oilers fans there for those games.

Extra for Ken King:

As a President myself, I would like to commend Ken King for standing by his staff.  With the support that he is showing through these hard times it shows well on him and the Team as a whole.  I strongly recommend that Brent Sutter take this course http://landmarkforum.com somewhere down south where he isn't recognized.  It will help him to communicate better with the players.  Everyone will be happier because of this, I guarantee it.
